any advise.Think ive messed up here..
I have repaird a hole in the roof of my car. When id finished the roof is destorted due to the heat of the welding. guess i rushed it DAMM..
My question is, if i were to cut out the new patch would the roof return to shape, then i could weld another one in, but take more care this time....

How big was the patch if it distorted the roof?

I don't think it will return because the heat of the weld expands the surrounding metal, we have a bit of trouble with this sort of thing in work only not on cars, the only thing I can suggest is beating the panel with a hammer and dolly so is something like and leading over the top.

You will struggle doing it with MIG. Mig adds extra metal by default, so distortion is inevitable, especially in a roof panel.
Best way would be with a tig and butt welding it using no filler rod. It may still ripple, but as there is no extra metal, it will hammer back flat.
Failing that, maybe hammer it down a bit and fill it?

Had the same when I did the roof on my Ranchero, used a mig to weld the patch in and it warped. Used filler to hide / disguise it

Thanks for the advise guys.. but i had a stroke of luck, bumped into an old friend last night and told him my problem.......................
So he said.. hey my brother used to repair rolls royes body work i will see if he can call round. so at 11am today he turns up with just hammer and a dolly, two hours later no distortion and he even put a skin of filler on for me

was amazing to watch this old fella just tapping with his pionted hammer and a lump of metal................
So now im happy again so the beers are on me tonite

You should have filmed that, bodymen like that are a dying breed and I could use a few hints!
