Thanks Ade, good point. Hope to get it sorted tomorrow tho.

One of the benefits of being made redundant last Friday :( - more time to spend on the more important things in life :)

Got some PTFE tape thanks but well reminded.

Where's that mate? I used to live in that town!
They are in Castle Coombe. They do some funky stuff in there too. Exhaust components, mirrors gauges, seat etc etc.

Sorry Nick, missed that post.

What typre did you get? A couple of places I spoke to today have the more common 1/8-27 (or 24?) NPT threaded sender, it's the 1/4-18 we're struggling with.
I got a few tbh 1/8-24, 1/8-27, 1/4-24. Give em a call and ask em if they got one. Theyll be for aftermarket gauges but most of them work with whatever!!

That's OK Rob, the point is that the test will show you where your needle is pointing for a temparature of 100deg. It will probably be, say, a third to halfway across, but as long as it is somewhere with some headroom either side (i.e. not pegged) you'll know that that combination of gauge and sender will give you something you can use - i.e. knowing when your water temp is 100deg. If when you are driving it starts going past there by a margin then it will be fulfilling it's purpose of giving you a warning!

If, on the other hand, the sender is grossly mismatched to the gauge it might peg either side, which will tell you that it is not going to be any use to you at all!

More importantly, sorry to hear about the job - it seems nothing is safe these days :( I've been under threat for the first time ever and it is not a comfortable feeling, so must be a lot worse when it happens. Hopefully better things will come along but thinking of you in the meantime......

Sorry Gav, I skimmed over your 1st post and missed the point  Re-read it now and sounds a good idea. Will see what we can do tomorrow.

Is your job trouble related to the general situation at Ford? I see they're getting rid of a whole bunch in the US
Got an interview in Elstree next wed with a guy I used to to work with at a different place - feel I've got 1 foot in the door already.....

Indirectly.....Ford is our main customer and since they spun us off their sales have been falling, so not good for us. There are other reasons too, but hopefully it will work out OK. Not much morale left in the camp though!

Anyway hope the interview goes well, and meantime have fun with the car!!!
