Wheel nuts sheared off???

Post by Anonymous »

On my way home from work the dart gained a small vibration when turning right. Stopped to have a look under but couldnt see what would cause it!!
Only being 4 miles from home a continued. Anyway got home and looked at the wheel again and 3 of the nuts have sheared off!!

Lucky it made it back but why would this have happened???

Thanks
Nick

That happened to me while driving a 7.5 tonne truck. Slight noise when turning right and no obvious signs. I pulled over and called for help, the recovery agent told me the wheel nust work loose over time and these had been wearing the rim down for quite a while. Truck needed a new rim but it could have been a lot worse!

My brother lost one of his front wheels of his Voyager the other week. All nuts sheared clean off!

Must be something in the air!!

Older Nissan cabstars do it,I've seen a couple in the last 3 years. If the nuts were wrong on your car, check the studs aren't partly stripped and the wheels haven't been damaged. Someone loosened my Mustangs wheel nuts one night, took about 5 miles before I could hear/feel it.
