Gearbox options
The Gearbox in my 69 is a 727 torqueflight but is leaking more oil than the amoco cadiz.
I think it's had a hard life too.
What are my options, where should I go from here? Someone said that there is a 4 speed auto available...is this fact?
Or....I kind of fancy I should go manual....and again what are my options here.
Thanks

Whatever you do make yer mind up quick mate. You dont want the paint finished on that car only to decide you wanna manual cos the floor will need hacking and a hump welded in.
Rebuild your auto. Way cheaper than sourcing all the bits you wont have AND getting another gearbox. Plus its a better drive.
You should only have a 4 speed if you have a 1970 Charger. THEY got the PISTOL grip Mmmm mmm yes sir.

Viper, in case you might be interested, I think GV may have sent me the wrong over drive unit. The invoice has an A833 designation but the parts list, canny enough, has a bunch of '727' numbers on them.
I still have to call GV to confirm my suspicion, but if it is for a 727 I can either sell it on this site or just send it back to the company to exchange it for the right part....

This is how I fitted mine. I understand there is a tiny bit more room under a charger.vipergts wrote:I'll give Gera Vendors and Duncan Watts a call......Deep breath.![]()

Thanks, Dave....Those are definately the parts I have, including the circuit that allows you to change between manual and auto. The tail shaft certainly has the 727 stamp, as you mentioned.
The install manual only references 727, which I imagine would only be slightly different to hook up than a 4-speed unit. As for the invoice, there are 3 parts listed with 727 in the part numbers - out of only 3 parts listed. Hmm...
