On my 383 I have an Edelbrok intake manifold topped with a Holley carb and and a Edelbrok Air Filter (Approx 14" round). The problem is the throttle linkage is catching on the air filter (sometimes jamming the throttle open  ). Can you buy a spacer to go between the carb and the filter? Should I switch to a different shaped filter? Any good places in the UK to order either from?
Is the Eddy air cleaner the recessed one? If so is it pressed with clearance shape round the base plate? If so it should be possible to get it to fit by orientating it with the clearence parts set horizontally across the carb.
I'll try and get some pics later. There is a small recess in the bottom of the filter and the previous owner has been at it with a hammer and screwdriver by the look of it, to try and make the recess deeper. This kind of works but once it catches it spins the filter round to a low part again and it gets stuck again.
The spacer turned up on Saturday and I now have a nice free flowing throttle. I now realise the problem was worse than I thought (I don't think I had full travel on the throttle) and I have forgotten how long I had put up with this! There was only just enough thread to get the airfilter on the spacer and the carb but it's a well made part and has made the car a pleasure to drive again
you can buy longer studs but it is much cheaper to find an engeneering suplier who stocks lengths of studding , usualy 36" length but some stock 12" , even a 36" will probably be cheaper than the "proper" stud , you could even get stainless ,if it is a normal holly , not dominator you will need 1/4 UNC. if you cant find one let me know i know my suplier stocks it
I have the opposite problem, we shouda swapped airfilters
Just instlaled a new holley carb on my car today, totally different to what was on there. Anyways, i had to install a spacer plate under the carb else the throttle Bananarama! the intake! now the bonnet hits the air cleaner! Not even tried the car out.
