Quick Length Question

Post by JustinMFox »

How many inches does the rear chrome bumper add to a 1968 Charger? Is it easy to remove?

Its easy to remove, just 4 big old nuts in the trunk to undo and unclip the number plate light connections. Where do you want the measurement from? the rear bumper although on irons sits almost flush with the lower valence, so is the measurement from the tail light panel to the over rider?

Basically to fit in my garage I need to get about 2 inches from somewhere although I haven't been able to try it in there yet so hopefully it may fit anyway, I did a rough measurement of how much the bumper adds and it was about 4 inches(Hopefully) so if it's only a 5 minute job to remove I don't mind doing that as the car is only used a few times a month, all the manuals say the car is 208 inches but i've always got about 205/206 when i've measured it

2" ... wouldn't it be easy to hammer out the garage door a little?

Wish I could but it's not my garage, hopefully it will fit without the bumper removal, for the sake of 2 inches I WILL make it to fit somehow

Ask Simon (Yorkie). He did a great mod for his garage. Tho, if its brick, may need to get handy with a chisel!
Can you set the door frame back a little? I cant see you gaining anything from removing the bumper, and you'd want at least a decent air gap to prevent any contact.

Just noticed Phil's charger has no markers. Looks kinda neat IMO.

Can't really do any mods to the garage, I stood parallell with the bumper and there is definitely a few inches gained by removing it, things we do for cars eh

Funnily enough, I believe a lot of the cars used in Dukes didn't - Hence Phil's are missing. Am I right Phil ? :D

Ahhh see you are becoming GL connoisseurs!! Yes, the "correct" look for a GL is to have the side markers and reverse lights removed. This was because WB used 68,69 and 70 chargers during filming and they needed to keep the look consistent. Well that's the rumor but I've got the DVDs and you often see them with them in, whether they be 68 or 69's.

I think the car looks better with them removed and its more in line with the movie General which mine leans towards.
