What are the largest wheels you can fit on a 71 Challenger?
This may be a bit of a blasphemous question...
But what is the largest wheel you can fit on a 1971 Dodge Challenger without having to mess with the arches? And what profile of tyre will be on the wheel?
I have seen some with 20 Inch chrome wheels and larger... Surely they don't fit without altering the arch do they?

It's the overall tyre height that's important - a typical (say 275/295) 18" wheel with a 45 profile almost the same height as a 60 series 15".
IMHO any larger than about a 31" combo will look a bit naff (and that is pretty tall) and anything less than about 45 profile. You can just get away with 40 in some cases, any less will look bad. I have been doing a LOT of thinking on this and I reckon 27"-28" is just about right. Then pick your favourite wheel tyre preference to get that.
But please stay away from 20" wheels. Your bank balance, sense of taste, and the quality of ride on your car will thank you for it......my 2c

Just to be clear I was mainly addressing the area of 'modern' wheels (i.e. bigger than 14/15"). In my opinion (that's all we are talking about of course
) Pro Street cars and tubbed wheelwells look great and presumably they are much bigger than 31"!!
I think the main guidelines for me are 1) Wheel/tyre combo should properly fill the wheelarch (just talking height here, width is a different subject), which means no less than 27" tyre height ideally, and 2) No tyre profiles less than 40 series, it's not good for handling or looks!

Ah, but, then you'd get pulled for running without any kind of wheelarch. Unless you make some out of perspex
And, you probably wouldn't be able to open the doors either, oh, hang-on, you could do a gull wing door conversion..............
