Richard Scott 69 Charger

Thought I would set this up now before the car goes away to get paint so that I can keep a record of it and keep updating as I go.

Hopefully the car is going away mid Feb to a guy called Dave Potts to get the paint taken off and see if there are any horrors underneath. I doubt it as I haven't found any rust anywhere yet.

It will be getting a good seeing to and a tidy up of some of the trim and other cosmetic stuff. Going to be a darker blue eventually, I need a 69 grille and maybe some new parking lights but it's all pretty much there.

I may be giving it a bit more of a modern look but nothing radical, I know I am probably opening myself up to criticism from purists but its not a matching numbers car to start with. Plus I want something a bit different and sexy.

I am open to advice/criticism/abuse as the project goes along and I will be putting up pictures as and when.

Wheels

These are the wheels I'm thinking about. They are Foose Nitrous in Grey which I think look pretty cool.

What does the public think?

Good luck to you.....I wouldn't worry about what the public think however I think the wheels would look great.

Not really into bling type wheels, but I have to say that is one sharp looking Charger you have there. I hope it stays like that for ya when the paint is off. I also have to say I like the colour it is in the pics.

Keep the pics comong cos were all interested to see peoples efforts.

Cheers

Old wheels: yes they are American Racing 200's I believe. They are great wheels, I love five spokes. They are a bit tatty in places though and for what it would cost to do them up I figured I'd just buy new ones and pass these on to someone who was keeping their car more stock than me.

New wheels: don't know sizes yet, bigger wheels than the ones on now but not stupid 'Pimp my Ride' big. I watch a lot of Overhaulin' and I love Foose's wheels.

Eventually I want the car a bit lower and a decent wheel/tyre combo should help.

Like I said there's not that much to do, the car is solid and a new lick of paint and new wheels and tyres it'll look sensational. The guy who's doing the paint has had several centrefold cars in Custom Car and other mags. I've seen his work and it's amazing. I have to admit I'm very excited, I'm selling my GT40 just to pay for it all.

I may sound like an old fogey, but I love the colour, love the wheels...I would just drive it!

Must admit though, those Foose rims look pretty cool. :thumbright:
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

Paint

Post by Anonymous »

I am not aposed to the colour, its just the pictures do not show how bad the paint job is.

Some of you may have seen the car when it belonged to Andyrob, the guy who he got it off was a house painter and this car looks like it was painted with a roller and brush. Either that or driven into a swimming pool full of blue paint(!)

Since the paint HAS to come off anyway I am changing into to a different blue that I prefer. Some of the underneath is blue too! Exhust, suspension, the paint stripping is a necessity rather than a choice. Everything apart from the interior and the engine is blue!

OOooo, solid boot floor. Well that car will look fab when it is done. Once again, nice to see a job done properly.

Dont forget to keep those picutres coming.

Have you chosen a shade of blue then?

Blue

Post by Anonymous »

I was thinking of a darker blue, something quite close to the colour of Justin M Fox's car. That is Viper GTS Blue but mine would be blue all over, no vinyl roof or two tone.

Originally I was going to go the General Lee route which is why I have the name Dukerich but after a while I thought, my car is the same year and right engine for a General but there are already so many great examples of them out there I wanted to do something different and incoporate new and old ideas to make a unique car.

Don't get me wrong guys, I love the General Lee, it's the reason I fell for the 69 Charger when I was seven years old and it's also the reason why they are getting harder to find(!) I loved the show but they keep making these stupid films of the Dukes and destroying more of the cars that made them a success in the first place.

Also on the to do list is disc brakes up front, maybe all round I haven't decided yet, tidy up the dash (maybe new gauges) new headliner and mirrors as the car has neither.

Yeah that's more the colour I am going for. I might go for an existing mix or Dave may mix up something special. I definatley want it darker than it is now.

I do like the purple but it would have to be a deep aubergine purple so it almost looked black from a distance but I think that might have to wait for another car. I like blue.

Dave Potts will do an excellant job of painting it (say hi for me, he knows me as Nigel, not Rebel), ask him about the colour he painted Wilburs Camaro, think that was a really dark purple and looked gorgeous
