steerin box seal removal
hi guys, is it possible to change the upper oil seal on a 68 charger power steering box without pulling the whole unit out, can you do it by just removing the steering coupler? or does the whole steering column have to be slackened off? thanks for any info,trev.

Get me over there one Sunday soon (just not this Sunday!) Trev and I will map the dizzy advance curve to see if that billet dizzy has been set up right. Then I will set the timing and idle speed/mixture for you. At some point in the future we need to remove that mechanical voltage regulator, fit the soild state version in it's place, and check the charging system and ground connections.

hi all, managed to replace the steering box oil seal today, all in all not too bad of a job to do, the roll pin came out easily and all the steering column bolts came undone without any fuss, the steering coupler slid off easily too, allowing acces to the seal, i then cleaned around the shaft getting rid of any bits of dirt and oil.
i then proceeded to pop a small hole into the old seal with a snap on pick, then inserted a small self tapping screw and turned it in untill the seal dislodged itself, before the return journy i cleaned and inspected the shaft for any damage, non was found so i put some tape over the splines, put a blob of grase on the new seal and gently drifted it home using a deep socket, once i was happy with its seating, i then reassembled the rest of the steering components, topped up the steering fluid and run up the car turning the wheell from lock to lock numerous times also checking for leaks , so far not a drop, the proof will be no puddle of fluid under the car tommorow so fingers crossed.
time to do job, 4 hrs[ lots of double checking and tea breaks in this also!]
