What's Your Daily Driver

My daily driver
Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 turbo diesel automatic, Japanese import. Great work horse, fantastic towing vehicle. Never let me down ever, only car I have ever owned that someone tried (and failed) to steal. After the anger I was quite flattered.
Me too.John wrote:Only just seen this thread , was origonally posted before i joined the forum.
Don't do it! I used to drive one at Duxford & it was terrible! Just my own opinion of course. It was plenty quick enough, but the handling was rubbish, felt really unstable and top-heavy. The spring on the clutch pedal got stronger just at biting point, so everyone was always stalling it. Also, build quality was shabby, in the first 2 months from new, the stereo broke, the heater got stuck on 'hot' and the handbrake handle fell apart. I cringe every time I see one here with a Dodge badge on it.John wrote:Might get a sprinter next , not too keen on the new Tranny.
Anyway, daily drivers... well, mine's the Monaco, since it's my only car. The only other thing I drive here is my work truck, '97 GMC Sierra 2500:

PS, I'm with you Fingers, on the "cheap old banger" economy! I've never paid more than £50 for a daily eurobox. My last one was a Volvo 360, which I swapped an old garden shed for!
I never had to worry about where I parked it or about it getting damaged. 1000s of miles of trouble-free, suprisingly comfortable motoring, and when it did go wrong it could be fixed with duct tape and a hammer!

I agree with you there Mighty Monaco about the handling on Merc vans , ive always said this , there too soft on the suspension and it doesnt inspire confidance on the bends. The Transit is much more stable and thats why ive always liked them , even though thier not as strong on power as the Merc. Ive had about 4 of the new Tranny's now and had very few problems with them ( the first one a 52 plate the gearbox broke at 12Kmiles ), but the one i have now developed an oil leak about 6 month ago and its been back in to be fixed twice now and its still bloody leaking and its ruining my block drive
Ive also had the use of a Merc 113 CDi VLWB (very long wheelbase
) and with only 52K miles the bloody side door was hangin' off , had problems with the injectors and several other small nigglies.
But ive been told the new Tranny's leak around the doors , but i dont know wheather it's just an isulated problem .
Our kid got a new Merc 6 months ago and he loves it ,Lecy windows and aircon (the later, extremely usefull in my game) but maybe i'll take heed at what you say Mighty. Does anybody else own or run a new tranny or a Merc Sprinter ? And have thay any probs or do they like ?
