A New Show In town

Hey all, theres a new show in town.

This is the inaugural hosting of the Retro Custom and Classic Auto show and will host all types of classics, americans, rods, customs, Vee Dubs, bikes etc.

It has been organised by a good freind, who is a really top bloke, and would be over the moon with some support from the likes of us - either oficially as the MMA or individually as car owners. At this point, the reception by his own car scene has been fantastic but he loves muscle cars (he is a regular at JPC as he is having a splitty camper done there) and would really like to see a strong turn out of stateside machinery.

Hopefully the link will work to the site he has developed. You will be glad to know its very very reasonably priced for entry, and very close to the south side of the M25.

I'll be there to support his hard graft

(even if it is in a poxy landrover AGAIN)

Looks Ok but,I for one will never pay to show my car. Without "our" vehicles there wouldn't be a show. Let the punters pay to come in ,never charge the exhibitor.

Events such as Americana you have to pay to get in with your car and they get thousands of vehicles.

But for your money you get dozens of good quality rock, rockabilly and country & western bands on at least two stages plus two evening discos.

However Americana costs a hell of a lot more than this one Clivey is telling us about.

Having been involved in organising shows myself I know how easy it is to make a loss with these things. All it takes is a threat of rain and no-one turns up.

Come to think of it I can't think of a show that is free to get in if you're displaying, Xtreme Wheels was but that's no more.

Sorry if I sound stroppy but it winds me up. I will pay to get in and show my car because the most important thing to me is that these type of shows keep going and I only see showing my car as karma for all the other cars that I've admired at shows over the years. Indeed if it were not for the people who did show their cars I probably wouldn't be driving the Charger. I'm sure whoever is organising this is not some entrepreneur looking to make their first million from car shows, I'm sure they're doing it for the love of the cars.

I think you only pay if you are camping at my local (Teeside actually) show organized by the NEACC.

Brooklands,and Duxford are different.They are museums hosting a car show,I don't object to paying admission to those,I took my daily to the first Duxford show and 2005 Brooklands because of the museum side. I can book into a local vintage rally that usually has several American cars there,entry is free and if I'm one of the first 15 to enter I'll get £15. Another show,The Festival of Transport has upwards of 12 American cars along with everything else,including a very good autojumble. Again free to enter. Wheelsday is a good show,there are probably more exhibitors and their families than punters and I'd suggest the charge is now there to regulate numbers,last year it was full to bursting and it was a bad day weather wise.Again the trade stands and autojumble are good. But buying a car,restoring/maintaining it and fueling it are expensive luxuries in reality, to be asked to pay to show the car to the paying public is an insult. As I said,without the exhibits there is no show.

some shows you only get in free if you are in a yank/classic etc . Makes people dig their cars out of their garages and pump the tyres up and get em to the shows. You would think some of these shows could pay for hosting by sponsorship, or just by the profit on those 30% meat hotdogs and burgers and £1 cans of pop

By the way I was one of the organisers of a big Jap car show for a few years. It got too big in the end and it was handed over to some professionals.
