technical worries

Post by Anonymous »

hi, hoping someone can help settle my worries about the direction iv'e taken with the engine revamp on my 440.
the more i read and learn the more i wished id learn't b4 maxing out my credit card trying to sort my motor in the fastest possable time.
its a stock new yorker block with a 750cfm holley.
ive bought and installed a speed pro cam from sealed power but ive lost the bit of paper with duration and lift numbers on it.
i have got the label off the box which says its a CS-181R
can anyone "decode" this label at all?
also once spec is known how will it run with me hedman headers.
will it bring it up to proper charger440 power?
thanks in advance for any comments.

also how can i tell if iv'e blown the valve thing in my holley as on the way home i got some backfires a couple of times.
and when i finally let the throttle off at J21 of M1 for leicester i lost any power and had to idle home, then i pulled it to bits next day.(intake loose and carb bolts not even hand tight)

I assume the valve thing you are talking about is the power valve , ive never damaged one personaly but know people who have , easiest way is change it , if its an older carb you will benefit from the newer style valve , if it was running ok you need to replace it with the same value valve , this is stamped on the top .

Before you buy a new valve check yer intake vacuum to make sure you have the right one. (Measure intake vacuum at idle then your power valve should be 2 numbers down from this.)

If you've blown the power valve you'll have clouds of black smoke from the exhaust which will reek of petrol, it won't want to idle, it will misfire at low revs, but will pull fine at high revs.
