Ignition Problems

Post by Anonymous »

Help!! I have fitted a new ignition module (gone from a five pin to a four) and have rewired various bits. Took the van for a drive + discovered that when I put my foot down it sounds like a diesel. It almost sounds like pre-ignition, but I'm not sure.

I would like to know if the ignition module for the six cylinder, the small block and the big block is the same unit or does each one require a different unit (ie. Have I got the wrong one?)

I have also used the old ballast resistor (4 connections) using only two of the connections.

Any thoughts are very welcome - Terry.

The modules are not engine specific.

Thanks Dave. That rules out the possibility of the wrong unit. I'm still wondering about the ballast resistor, but that seems unlikely as the coil is getting power.

You sure it is not something daft and un-related like a blown exhaust manifold gasket?

Hi Dave
Problem solved the ignition timing was miles out. I should have checked it in the first place. Thanks for the input,

Cheers Mick. I'm not into vans or pick-ups either, but I just had to buy this one!
