Jem's '65 Belvedere Ratster

Post by Blue »

Someone was asking what was happening with the Ratster, so here's an update. Been doing a bit on it over the winter, biggest change is under the hood, the 440 now wears an edelbrock dual plane with a 750 vac sec Holley. All plumbing from the pump is in Aeroquip with a fuel pressure gauge. A billet bracket sorts out the throttle linkage and mounts the lokar kickdown cable. Converted to electronic ignition with a Mopar performance kit, Denso mini alternator and mini starter fitted. Headman headers and 3" exhaust system with flowmasters, all ally coated. Big ally rad with separate trans cooler. Battery moved to trunk, troublesome bulkhead multiplug eliminated and all front end wiring re routed under the inner wings in my usual fashion. heaters gone in the bin, raided my collection for a period set of Sun blueline gauges. Burnt the carpet, repaired the footwells and sloshed some black paint on the floor for now, rear seat is out and will be making an ally panel to replace the cardboard boot divider. Made and fitted a set of chassis ties while I was under there fitting a 4.10 sure grip with my other hand. Got a disc brake conversion to do on the front when I get 5 minutes and will also convert to dual circuit master cylinder hopefully without servo if I can talk him out of it. so that's about it so far, it's ready to go, we have some more ideas for the future but it ain't gettin' painted! Jem's really happy with it and can't wait for some decent weather so he can drive it.

What is your usual fashion Blue?

I too am eliminating the bulkhead plug/fusebox completely and was wondering what the best way would be to run the cables into the engine bay. I think I can avoid those big 245/60/15 front tyres and was considering that black slit tube conduit stuff you can get in order to run the cables under the wings as you have. But I was worried about water collecting in there.

Do you use that stuff or do you use something else?

Dave, I use black plastic spiral wrap, I prefer it because it doesn't add much bulk to the loom and you can easily bend it to follow tight curves for a neater installation. I also think it looks neater than anything else when it's in a position where you can see it.

I used washing machine waste water pipe  It stretches and bends a treat, but its only useable if you know how many wires you need to run.IE you cant add at a later date like with the split tubing, also its completely water proof and cheap..
