When I moved my springs in a bit I had to move the spring perches on the axle anyway so I centered the axle under the body then.
It is more critical that you have exacly the same length from the front wheel center to the rear axle center. This can be out too. The fix is shims behind the front leaf spring hanger.

I was quite suprised at the way the panels were joined on my Charger, its like they put the floor pan near the sill, and thought.. that'll do, and just started spotwelding it on, one end was 1/4 inch above the bottom of the sill, and the other end was 1/4 inch below ! Front of car wasn't much better, which becomes apparent when welding in replacement panels. I guess thats why all the bolt holes are slotted !
