I've gone and done it....

Post by Blue »

With the recent talk of super stock Dart rear wheelwell openings, I think it's time to show you what I've been up to. I've agonised for years over cutting the fenders and it looking wrong, I obtained a template from an original car and marked it up and I wasn't happy with the look of it. after much thought and chin stroking I decided that a semi raidiased shape would be best so that's what I went with. I wasn't happy doing it myself as I'm no body man, so I had good friend Pete Rivers over to cut it and make up a new lip. Gary leyton tigged it all up last night without warping the quarters at all, much to my relief. Just needs finishing off and the sides of the car painted which will also get rid of a lot of the worst bits of that lousy paint job. The wheel lip mouldings, sill trim and chrome mouldings around the grille are now gone, it was all looking a bit too "GXL" for my simple tastes. So I now have enough room for a 10" rim where I could only use an 8.5" before and 'I've lost that "pro street" look that really didn't fit in with the nostalgia look that I'm after. So I know some of you will hate it, but I'm delighted with the results.

well blue not my bag , but a whole lot better than the horrible 50 pence look, yours will stay lookin better than most that are like that if you refrain from stickin the wheels out past the quarters,

Hi Blue,

I like it, I thinks it suits the car, as you say more of a period look 8-)

Looks from the photos your body man did a great job, especially the inner wheel lips.

I guess you still have paint over from last time so you can blow in the arches or will you just get some more matched/mixed.

Looking forward to seeing it run in anger :thumbright:
