Curious noise

Post by Stu »

Took the Barracuda out for a good old cruise today, all windows down despite being freezin' at pace! 8-) Did get an unsettling noise, though.

Under acceleration, mostly at lower speeds (30-40ish) there is a definite "click" as you put your foot on the gas. It is louder when booting it at lower speed (and yes, I know the engine gets louder as you gas it, making the noise quieter  but this is noticably different.)

Difficult to tell where it's coming from, sounds like its coming from the trans tunnel sometimes, and from the rear sometimes. You can't feel it through the peddle, just get the noise!

Any ideas? (Go gentle with me, I'm still learning...) :read2:

Cheers, Chip. Will check it out at the weekend when we can get it up on the lift.

I would check the trans mounting as well, get underneath and see if you can move it around...

Torque Convertor bolt loose?

Swap it all out and convert it to Big Block  a sort of "Cure-all" solution....

If the torque convertor bolt comes lose, you will hear it with the engine ideling, as the flex plate will be "slapping" the convertor, or worse still , cutting into the block.

You'll find the noise will disappear when you take the rpm up, as the convertor will pull into the box. Assuming it has just started to loosen off.

I would pull the dust cover & check it anyway.
