727 confused

oh my god just been reading about setting up the kick down linkage,
mine has been disconnected for two years, does this mean my box is terminal

I've tried to connect it but the box refuses to change up
cant seem to get my head around the adjustment procedure. Is the lever on the gearbox suppose to move as soon as you touch the throttle
or is this not important as long as it kicks down?what speed would you aim for under light throttle for shifting into top gear, at the moment it changes into top gear at around 30 mph kick down disconnected

30 mph sound about right, kick down should only operate at almost full throttle

Finally got it to kick down OK but now seems really soft changing up
hard to tell when it changes into 3rd seems about 20mph, now with all this flooring the throttle it has caused a core plug to leak,the same one was replaced about a year ago and had to remove the engine
