Propshaft advice please

Post by db »

My pickup has a modded prop (due to the Rover lump) with a centre UJ. Never had any trouble with it til the rubber mount for the support bearing completely disintegrated, highlighting how puny the bit of angle iron it was attached was.
Thought i'd do a proper job and replace the lot. Now, under heavy acceleration, the UJ judders worse than before!
I've obviously lined summat up wrong but what is the right way?
The scrappy i got the replacement support from said "just make sure it's NOT in line". Well THAT ain't worked!
My mate says the outer faces of the UJ's must be parallel, i don't know how to achieve this with 3 UJ's though :?

The props could be 180* out, had a vibration after fitting the new box , turned the prop 180* & sorted the problem.

Lesson to me , mark the prop next time.

Thanks Adam, mine have a spline missing so i can't make that mistake (not without a LOT of determination anyway ;) )

I've sorted it now- lined 'em up dead straight in the side-to-side plane and lifted the centre UJ above the centre line an inch so all 3 UJ's just bend down slightly. I've nailed the throttle with a bit o weight in the back & it seems fine now :thumbright:

Ready for the next project- LPG!
