I think to successfully do that you wanna remove the dash (which in turn means the screen). It is probably easier to repair if you also remove the scuttle panel too and will probabaly give you a better idea of what should be there.

That black thing I think is the fresh air vent stack, it slots into the end of the scuttle panel in a big hole. you might be able to remove it seperately?

I don't have my parts list on hand with the exploded diagram of the panels. Does anyone else?

And would you mind emailing me a picture of that compliance tag too?

OK your first pic

that big hole into the plenum shows the top of your crotch cooler air inlet. Its a 2 part plastic bit
they are held in with a loop of old coat hanger that bolts through the bottom of the black bucket like vent you can see in the car if you stick your head under the dash.

if you get signed up with hemi6pack you can see a car that has had the top of the area infront of the screen removed and you can see the top end in reasonable detail

now the big hole

that used to be solid metal apart from
a round hole aprox 10p size about 2 inches up from the seam

it should have a rubber gromitt in it

and a small 1 inch long by 1/4 inch i arch just above the seam where it goes horizontal

that was to let the water out of the plenum

the plenum of course used to have some kind of floor to it which from this angle is either not visible or given the length of plastic air box i can see.....not there.

the scutttle is the lid to the plenum chamber it sits betwixt screen and the edge of the bonnet
it has the louvres in it that the window washers stick up through
and allows air rain and leaves in to the plenum

Have added some pics from the series shown on hemi6packs

I think we all know the space problem. Good work there, it's not so important to make all the hideaway as original on a car like this (unless you are into factory original stuff). What is more important is that it's being loved and will be driven in anger once again.

You have to be brave or stupid to get stuck into something that rusty. But I think you are the former and not the latter.

You are doing a good job of it. :thumbright:
