318 -> 440 ?

Post by morgan »

Beer conversation - not in the offing at the moment, but in theory, to take a 68 Charger from a 318 to a 440 I think you need some frame parts (k-frame ? ) but chap I was talking to at weekend reckoned not.

Anyone got any idea ? Is it expensive ?

Just curious rather than serious...

You can change the K-Frame but you don't have to as there are mounts made for conversions.

You will also need the trans. Beefing up the suspension and brakes would help too. Axle depends on power output and use.

Ahh, Dave forgot something.

You also need to upgrade your wallet to a small holdall, for that not-so-insignificant reduction in MPG once the car is running. :lol:

Thanks Dave - although I think I just lost my arguement (I said k-frame!). Brakes are already factory discs. Seems to have heavy duty suspension too... Its all a bit pie-in-the-sky. I wanna get my 318 sweet first anyway...

Clivey - 14mpg for the 318 -> 9mpg for a 440 ... Its not great to start with ! ! :)

You dint have to change the K frame and you dint have to get special mounts you only have to do that if you are going from 6 cylinder to 8. All you have to have is the gearbox, prop and make sure the rad is big enough

I used to get 20 in my 318 Valiant Charger. I used to get 18 in my 440 Chally with 750 edelbrock, a 284 MP cam and 2800 stall.

Very impressive Dave. I am hoping for the same MPG from my Charger if driven in a particularly gay fashion. :D
