727 reverse problem

After starting the car up and letting it warm up for a while it will go forward fine, but went reverse is selected it will try to reverse then the engine will die. after starting it back up then trying reverse a few more times it will eventualy reverse.

any ideas

strange one craig, is the oil level ok dip in N idling warm,
could be seals on the clutch lazy or the rear servo

Oil levels ok.

The engine overheated the other week, due to thermostat. threw that out and dosent over heat now.

could this of affected anything?
