convertor tech query
Looking to replace my convertor. Need to understand some stuff.
e.g.lock up etc..?
I have an external balance 360 with a TCI assymetric flexplate which should allow me to fit any convertor without needing balncing lugs.
Will post seperate thread ref correct stall speed. Just need to know waht type of convertor I should belooking at.

lock up = stall speed

Engine spec, cam etc, useage ??....thought we'd done this once

Thanks guys, that clears the lock up/balance query.
Steve, questions have been answered previously about thestall speed issues, but I had other questions before I get to the stall speed issue :
, one of which is..are there different spline applications for small block 727 trans are are they all the same spline type?
Thanks for links, Dave
Also given that TCI seem to be a major name, how come they can make crap products?

TCI are cheap.MilesnMiles wrote:Also given that TCI seem to be a major name, how come they can make crap products?
I bought one against advice. Because it was cheap and all I could afford.
One worn out crank and knackered transmission later it does not seem so cheap. I have bought a TCS converter instead.

I will have some convertors for sale shortly from 2400 to 3800 stall behind a big block; I have found most stall much earlier.
My 4400 convertor will start the car gently moving as about 1500 - 1800 rpm; though obviously not locked up/stalled at that speed...

That's the most valuable post I've seen in a long time as regards stall speeds and converters...plain English, that everyone can understand...however, it may be worth pointing out that all your engines reently have been making some serious torque, which means a two barrel. low compression 3838 may take just a teensy weeny bit more reves to get moving!Pete wrote: My 4400 convertor will start the car gently moving as about 1500 - 1800 rpm; though obviously not locked up/stalled at that speed...

If you can afford it buy a decent one, if you're buying new the best for the price are PTC.
Either email or ring them and they will advise you what's best for your car and choice of use.
Cheap way to call, use telesavers, USA = 1P A MIN.
