The linear stuff doesn't take all the losses into consideration, it just assumes a constant acceleration. In cars of this size aerodynamic drag plays a greater part as the car gets down the track. There are other losses such as rolling tyre friction which also increase with velocity. It becomes harder for the car to maintain that level of acceleration all the way down the track. So the first hit up to 60 ft is very important because at no other point during the run will you be able to achieve the same acceleration.

That wiki gives the basics of linear accel, If anyone really wants to know how to calc it as a non-linear then I will have to go away and work it all out. I don't know if Gav has something ready to hand for this sort of problem?
