Same here, just because our cars come from America does not mean we have to call the parts by the same name. If we drive a Honda do we have to call a bonnet by the Japanese name?Kev wrote:Not silly at all, mate! Wing, bonnet and boot for me! No fender, hood and trunk here mate!

I'm here because Im not all there!!

Correct on all counts except maybe for the last one. My understanding of a "front clip" is the front subframe, crossmember and suspension as a complete unit.danscharger wrote:Hi people... can you help...

K frame
guess why its called that
nothing to do with A Pillar B pillar type terminology used by a whole range of car peoples either
.....
its shaped like a great big K
noice
Front clip-----> wings and slam panel and inner wings
yes if its a VW beetle or drivative cos the suspension is a beam that bolts on.
No for anything else as per dave's post

Ahh! but how many 50's Chevy pickups do you see that have been fitted with a Mustang II front clip? They mean the whole gubbins, subframe, brakes ,suspension, steering. Not the hood and fenders.

I have to admit for me personally bonnets are cute little things you get on hatchbacks, Mopars have hoods
If it has springs to hold it up its a hood, if it has a silly little stick its a bonnet
As for the rear end its same again, boots are for hatchbacks, if you can fit 3 dead bodies in it, its a trunk
Anything so I don't have to name the parts of a real car with the same names that are used on a front wheel drive hatchback
