Termiteology
Hi Dan,
The only Amercanism I don't like is Rockers! As in Sills/Cills.
For me, Rockers go to Hemsby in the Summer to annoy the holiday makers!
Best place for 'em is under the Rocker covers bolted down to the heads, preferably with a hardened shaft running up 'em!!! (Jones says to Captain Mainwaring).
They don't like cold steel up 'em, its a Dads Army thing, you're probably too young to know that stuff?
Baccy.

didn't Haynes manuals have a list of translations in them?
Yeah, never understood Rockers. If you're car's rocking on those, you've done some very bad parking.
Hood means convertible top in UK and the engine cover in USA
Double pumper i took to mean it has throttle pumps in all venturis, not just the front ones. (squirters) but I assume if it has those, it also has mech secondaries too.

Termins
Hi folks,
Had the same conversation in the US a couple of years back! A septic had found a MG Haynes manual and was laughing at the English terms!
They couldn't understand propshaft, they reckon they use them down the mines to hold up the ceilings?
I then went on to explain that it was a term taken from ships to drive the propellor, that got a good laugh!!!
In the the US I believe its a driveshaft, now I said, that would be for a front wheel drive car?
Then we went on to the trolley jack, they scratched their heads, so I pointed at one, another laugh, thats a floor jack! Surely you mean a car jack I said? Axle stands are Jack stands they said, as we don't just put them under the axle, so I gave up!!!
I knew I was fighting a losing battle, Baccy?
