help ! gearbox removal

Post by andyrob »

busy taking the box out of bid red n loud (66 coronet- incase you live on the moon) supported rear of engine (strap through headers)then disconnected gearbox crossmember, expecting box to drop down & the weight to be taken on headers, but no engine & box only dropped a little bit, split engine & box but unable to get box off ( hitting bulkhead)
engine is only connected via engine mounts -look at photos do they look standard ? or is engine solidly mounted -there are still rubbers there

have give up for the night will try lossening engine mounts tomorrow, normally on most cars the engine will tip up on it mounts when g/box mount disonnected

it should lean back enough.
the flat bit off the engine sump useually sits on the steering crosslink,
i take it you have undone the converter bolts??? you have to and bring the converter out at the same time as the trans, the trans needs very little room between bellhsg and bulkhead to come off

If you leave the converter on you will never get it back in the trans right. In fact you can damage the pump in the trans trying to take it off like that. Gan canny.
