Glove box lock - same key?

Post by Ivor »

Well, I worked into the night trying to get the lock out of my glove box lid, so I could fix the broken hinge.

I followed Dave R's excellent guidelines only to spot that mine appears to be lockable and doesn't require the floral wire trick, I think it needs a key. The ignition key doesn't appear to fit, is it the same?

I've looked through the workshop manual and there's nothing there I can see. Getting the key in, should help me get the lock out to fix it.

Help!

Mine opens with a lolly stick  in fact my passenger door does too. Have you tried just jiggling with a blank mopar key?

I got a blank mopar key if you want it Ivor

Cheers James...I haven't got a trunk lock...well I have, it's just arrived from Year One.

Thanks Markie I'll see how I get on with a blank, you never know your luck...didn't think they still made lolly sticks, but I might by a "zoom" and see if it works...

Give me a ring tommorrow, I know a man who is very good at opening locked things without keys if that would help.

Yes, it's the trunk key that opens it. Hopefully you'll find a way to pick the lock.

And when you do......good luck getting it out!! I have the key and am still unable to get the lock out. I've tried and tried. I also found the info from the guy who posted on Dave's site, plus posted on Moparts. just can't get it to work.

I'm probably doing something stupid :geek: but I dunno what it is...

Tell you what I think it is Gav, that little square hole at the base of the lock, doesn't appear to have anything in it apart from the back of the chrome knob.

I think there is something in there that releases the non-locking versions, but not the ones with keys.

I'll try wiggling around the trunk key and see what happens, if not, I'll have to try and pick it.

Meanwhile I'll try the Wild's link...
