powder coating

I know this was asked a while back,but I`m not sure if we had Neil on here then,so here goes.Is it possible to have headers powder coated?(by a profesional company)IE: will it last etc??Cheers.

Nope.

Metal Sprayed is an option, but like a pet it is forever, no welding after it is applied.

There is a company doing ceramic coating for headers which is your best option.

The standard powder coatings (epoxy or polyesters) will fry on headers, and decompose in excess 400c. The only type that will withstand any significant heat are those based on sicilicone resins. These have been applied to barbecues - but don`t last forever and they are darned expensive, are not common and are not compatible with other powders, so your local powder coater probably won`t want to use it anyway.
Best bet is as Dave says is have them ceramic coated.

silicone of course.

There is some work ongoing in powder using PTFE technology - the same stuff used on cookware (frying pans, etc), which can withstand high temperatures. Its` main drawback is that it needs a high bake temperature to cure, about 400c, furnace temperatures. This is a one to watch for the future.

Camcoat, the one Dave's already mentioned, done mine coming up to 2-years ago, still cleans up like new! 8)
