Best product to clean black plastic dash gauge housing?

If you can get it Autosmart G101 Cleans everything from seats/ plastic/ carpet /engine bays the lot, try to avoid contact to paintwork though

its an armourall can

i think i discoverd it for half price in wilkinsons

comes with a stiff plastic molded brush. dubious i was, as really the only two things in a can that work are carb cleaner and aircon gas (and old t-cut with high content organic stuff that melted ya paint, the new stuff is pish) The rest is snake oil as far as im concerned but was plesantly suprised.

The Alfa dash is suede look leather grained hard plastic (very batchelor-pad black n chrome in design .

i.e it has a course leather grain in a generally matt surface. its a right pain. even water leaves marks.

so ignore instructions and soak the area with the foam and really rub it in
with brush
wipe foam off and re apply.

it will look like you made a serious error of judgemnt for about an hour then all will come good

leave it to dry and buff away any weird patterns.

got hardend chololate Fridge milkshake off the seat as well (brown and nasty-don't ask)

mr sheen was applied as well but getting a consistent darkening of the sunbleached patches was a nightmare and also prooved difficult for my passengers to brace themselves aginst the dash anymore, (they now stay in the back

Dave, how did it look afterwards, 'traditional' armourall has got a bit of a bad rep due to the 'shiney' Bananarama! leaves......although it does seem to remove marks.

was alright due to the matt finish

what it did was lifted all the dust fluff and general nasty stuff that makes the dash look white and faded

i.e it got rid of the effect that you get after leaving the car with the windows/screen out in a workshop where lots of paint prep goes on

the only way i can explian it is

dusty record washed under the tap never looks as good as a dusty record cleaned with record antistatic cleaner

it gave it a better uniformity and the in grained light coloured dirt was converted into something that the brush could pull out

i too don't like the usual armourall effect this foam is probably very similar but it didn't just slash out like the normal hand pumped bottle so i guess they did something to it to make it suitable for cloth upholstery as well. glossy drailon is not what we want

I use foam cleaner that we have from work for cleaning PC's and keyboards and stuff like that.

Personally, I like Armor-All though.

Brasso for lenses.
