I have always wondered how to do that, nice one. My mate made a nice stainless one for his Hot Rod, I was going to get him to do the same for mine. Does it matter whether you have a top/bottom tank or side tanks? I notice yours is a side tank rad.

Modern thinking is that cores that go across from side to side are better than cores that go from top to bottom. It makes no difference to the overflow tank if that is what you meant James?

I have got a transmission cooler on the grill side so i was going to mount it on the engine side.

If it is the same Dave I must admit they identical apart from the finish the spec apears to be the same

. It would not be the first time that I have paid over the odds for something and probably wont be last time either

You want high air pressure in front of the rad, and low behind - thats why it's best to have a good seal between the hood & slam panel, and have the fan behind.

No reason you can't take fans from a pug, reverse the polarity, and fit 'em behind. BTW Don't bother with a cheap in-tube type switch - they're just a pain, and not designed for long term use.

If it is any consolation Guy it looks like they might not sell that fan any more. I think it was $75 back when I bought it? (18 months ago?)

They do a smaller 14-inch that is black like yours for $80. The 16-inch they sell now is deeper at 4.5" and has S-shaped blades. That one is $82.

There is a reason why you cannot reverse polarity and put the fans the other side of the rad.True reversing polarity will usualy make the fans spin in the opposite direction but the fan blades are designed to cut the air in a certain direction,bit like a scoop,which then forces the air through the rad,when going the other way the blades just push the air away and dont force it anywhere.I think.

I did 10 years in the air con trade but have probably forgotten it all

Which trick? For the one with the rabbit out of a beer bottle I wear a flat cap.

For the one with the ever re-filling radiator I use the standard cap. Don't ask me how it works but it does. Try it and tell me I ain't right.

Dave , its verry simple how it works , all modern caps are made for use with an expansion tank . if you look at the underside of the cap it has a 3/4" brass plate that appears to be rivited in place to hold the rubber but this part is spring loaded to allow coolant to enter the cooling system as it cools down , but wont allow it to pass under normal coolant presure .
caps are still available without this feture and if a expansion tank or catch can isnt used a cap without is probably better as it dosnt allow air into the system

You have given me a strong erge to go look at look at my radiator cap now.

But I can't!

It is away on its holidays up in Scotland parked next to a 1967 Monaco station wagon that some people on this message board would recognise as being very familiar indeed.....
