Mallory Park.

Post by Anonymous »

Just a couple of vids I thought I`d share with you from a recent trackday I attended at Mallory Park circuit in Leicestershire.

The first vid is the incar cam in my `70 mach1 Mustang,

The second clip is taken from my Frinds `67 GT Fastback Mustang,

Its always fun to surpise guys who think yanks can`t go around corners when they get passed by a couple of mussies, like the guy in the magnum Ferrari.
The day consisted of 15-20 minute sessions on the track in two classes, all the real fast race cars in one class and then everything else in the next class which is the one we went in, so you had a good mixed of pretty quick cars. We did six sessions I think throughout the day which works out to around 130 miles covered on the track, one tank of gas and some rather worn tyres.
This is the fourth trackday I`ve done this year and the tenth in total with this car, everytime it goes out its a bit quicker than before as I`m constantly improving it, next on the list is to fit some nice big brake calipers for the front off a late model mustang cobra.

I`d check your brakes before you do, you gotta be able to slow up quicker than you can accelerate else you aren`t going to make it through the corners and a runner is loads heavier than a stang.

Going into gerrards at around 70-75mph after slowing from 105 down the start/finish straight, on a good traffic free lap we were lapping in 62-63 seconds.
Gerrards seems to go on forever, you should see the state of my outside front tyre after what gerrards done to it! Best bit of the track has to be the devils elbow though.

Maybe you aint going fast enough to get brake fade ;) mustangs got massive brakes too and a 5 speed and I use my brakes hard so must be travelling quicker.
What happens on the road bares no relation to what happens on the track, I know this `cos I started off with a road car and know the amount of developement I had to do to get it to last a session without any fade or the overheating etc etc . Most road driven cars could only last about 10 minutes on a track before your brakes are completely burnt out and your fluids boiled up, closely followed by you engine getting way to hot.
I don`t get the hairdresser connection, could some one explain please?
