Headliner & paint choice??

Hi there,

Enclosed pics of my new toy - a super solid, super straight '67 Town & Country wagon with a 440 TNT motor, Torqueflite, power everything, faded sliver-with-a-hint-of-green paint, as large as possible without modification American Racing Outlaw wheels & white letter tyres, very black windows, new black seat covers, new black carpet, chrome trim around the windscreen, black B and C pillar covers, Alpine iPod stereo and hidden 1500 watt amp and a load of black painted hardboard stuffed up there for an headliner.

The original colour was a light beige with dark brown interior. The steering wheel and seatbelts are still choccy brown which actually goes well with the black.

So hope you like it! It's certainly the only one in Ireland and is there another in the UK? Haven't seen one, ever!

The reason for the post is I want to run a poll. Firstly should I paint it, yes or no, or leave it with the faded sun bleached 20 year old Florida paint job with rust blemishes on the cowl vents and odd spots on the roof. If so what colour?

And secondly, and more importantly in terms of timing what should I do with the headliner? Replace it with a new, proper board one, replace it with a fabric one with bows [which I'm leaning to], if so what colour, black to match the rest of the interior, white, off white/ cream/ silver, some other colour or something which I'm leaning to if I can get it - ModTop fabric?

Sartorial advice from the board please!!

Hi Nick,

Linda's 67 Monaco is the same, faded paint, burnished corners.

Just leave it.

Regarding the headliner. I would have sworn Linda's was black, but this photo shows it is white/grey. It isn't like normal headliners as it is hard, and not soft vinyl.

thanks for the replies -

Sandy - thanks great pic! Given me hope. Actually that was the 'look' I had in mind with the chrome/ stainless/ polished aluminium bars all along. Althought in my mind I was thinking about vinyl with the bars going over where the headliner bows are.

It does look good in off white/ grey - I guess it reflects more light.

And now I can see where the dome light goes - becuase I haven't got one!!. But then I guess i might find wiring and brackets when I take the whole lot down.

What are those bars made of please and how do they attach? Screws into the flat room mounted bow?

Hi Nick,

Car is tucked away at the moment. I honestly cannot remember there being exposed screws though.

I may be able to take a look in the next few weeks. I will take the camera.
