Thanks for the offers lads, but I am a one biscuit kind of guy.

We did not have time to strip the motor further as the lifters were going to go walkabout and needed to be stored correctly.

My guess so far is that the motor has spun a big end bearing (sound familiar??), but have not had time to check the thrusts. I have found usually the thrusts hold up OK in Autos - its the 4 speeds that cane them (anotherreason why I don't like 4 speeds)....time will tell...

If you are putting a six pack on a 440 with a much bigger camshaft than stock you will have a BIG tuning job on your hands getting it to run right. You have been warned. :lol:

There is a couple of options though.

Promax carbs offer secondary metering plates that take standard Holley jets. They also offer a rear throttle body with angled idle screws that you can adjust without removing the carb.

The other option is to fit accelerator pump shots to the front and rear carbs and use a mechanical throttle linkage rather than open the outboards with vacuum. This is the way I went and the result was very good. ;)
