Correct type of extinguisher fo a mopar...

Which is best to use for under the hood fires....

Foam would be the best for fuel...

Or ABC Powder...

But if it were possible to put the fire out another way, the reason I ask is because what sort of damage would you do if lets say the foam or powder got ito the carb etc....

And yes I know what some of you will say "wouldnt be worried to much about the engine whilst trying to save the whole car"...

Hey Red, check out Mister Benn's post on an the MMA extinguisher deal, knowing Jon it's the right one for the job.

Personally I just make sure that I haven't got a fag on when I'm changing jets :D

But I've ordered one anyway!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

Powder for petrol.
Foam for oil.
CO2 for electrical.

Hope you got room in the car

That is correct Rob, but if you use powder on an engine fire you have big problems, total rebuild, the powder gets in everything!

Halfords fart in a can is ok for a fuse that is a little warm.

Yes a 2 Kg extinguisher is a little large as you said in the for sale thread, but if you have an under hood fuel fire, switch off the ignition, stop the fuel pump. pop the hood or insert the nozzel into the hood scoop and give a short blast, the CO2 expands at a rate of 450:1 and will soon displace all the oxygen, then lift the hood and discharge a large amount of the CO2 into the area of the fire. always keep a bit in reserve!

So you cut of the fuel by stopping the fuel pump, and cut off the oxygen by using CO2. or shout :help: and dial 999.

So you can't you use halon these days, the wagon's got two 10 lb bottles strapped to the roll cage- probably a bit lethal in these PC times, ain't half good at putting out the fire though- ouch.
