How big can you go in a 400 block 500 is that the limit??
Never had a stroker in the Pit , tis a 440 30 over (446 cube :D) , the 400s stroke to 5 twelves (40 over) , or 510 (35 over) , 440 source don't list a 400 block 60 over. :?

Lookin @ all the 400 stroker combo's they list , the only one 60 over is the 400/500 stroker.

Goin aftermarket block , 440/540 cube.

Not sure about the wheels'n'tyres tho :? still, we were young. And they did come with the car.

Sorry Bob/Adam :arrrmeharties: :D

I have gone for a 400 based 500" stroker for Julies car, it is +0.040, with a 0.009 deck height. Spot on :thumbright:

Not 440 source, though.

Back before there were stroker kits available and you had to use chevy rods etc I am sure they used to bore the 400s 55 thou over to make 500 inches for some reason.

I am trying to remember what the combo used to be. :?

Still use chevy rods on some of the combo's, the stroker cranks have the right width and diameter for them. The old 451 recipe used to be an offset ground to Chevy journal size 440 crank in a 400 block with big block chevy rods and a custom piston. The problem with that was the huge rod side clearance you ended up with because the chevy rods were narrower than the Mopar ones. Don't have the specs handy to see if boring that combo 55 over would get you close to 500"?

With a 4.15 Crank in a 440 block .60 over, gives you 499.98 cubes ....almost 500

Thats why most 440 strokers are 496, on a plus .30 bore.

A 4.15 crank in a 400 block .40 over, gives 499.98...again nearly,
but you can bore the 400 more and at .60 thou over you get 504.5 cubes :thumbright:
You would have to bore the 440, .90 thou over to get that

Adam your s must be a 4.5 crank in mega block ??

Steve , your forgetting the RB on a 440 , few more cubes than the 400 , with a lesser stroke. ;) 400s are nearly maxed out with a 4.15 stroke , whereas the 440 is just getting started.

The 440/500 is a much better combo (longevity) than the 400/500.
