6000rpm pill will start dropping cylinders at about 5800 so no good to you! 6500rpm pill will be better but I reckon you'll get away with going to 7000rpm (7500pill) with the Melling HV and 1/2" pick up. I was going to 7k in Budgies motor with no problems. Did you notice that MSD supply, as standard, chips in 1000rpm increments that don't do us any favours? If you are building a stroker they are great for torque so hi revs don't matter. Check out some dyno charts for similar combos to yours if you can.

Sounds a good call Pete, but with a 1/2" pick up you can push the revs up higher than that - a lot depends on your choice of camshaft and what you NEED to rev it to.

Final engine combo will dictate what you need to rev it to Pete. I would keep the revs under 7 grand with a 1/2" pick up, a 505 in a light car like yours should easily go 10's without screaming the nuts off it.

I usually take my 440 to 6500 with a high volume pump and 1/2 inch pick-up.

Well I know my old 383 wasn't a race motor Pete, but the timing slip confirmed that it was going over the line in second at over 6200 rpm using a Melling High volume (not high pressure) and a half inch pick up.

I'm planning to use exactly the same set up in my stroker in the hope, as Blue says that I won't need to rev the nuts off it in an A body.

I must admit, after reading your posts on the build Pete, I had to smile when I read Wil's post about think about it 500 times and spend once...we've all made the same mistakes mate.

Anyway, you can always look forward to beating me, if it makes you happy! ;)
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.
