Hi everyone,
Whats involved in changing the camshaft bearings on a 440 lump? Are any special tools required for removal of old, installation of new? Will ALL bearings be the same size irrespective of cam lobe profiles etc.
Many thanks chaps

Cam Bearings
Hi Dude, Cam bearing removal is fairl striaght forward, just knock them out. The problems arise on refitting, 5 different sized circular drifts are needed, they are better fitted on a press to give a constant pressure. Hammering can flare the fitted side of the cam bearing and the white metal will need scraping with a special tool. In other words get a machine shop to do it for you as it can go very wrong! If you live near Kent I can do it for you, Baccarudajon.
Mr. Jon,
thats very civil of you sir. I may just take you up on that offer. I am in that sticky situation where I have more enthusiasm than confidence at this pooint in time. If I let the enthusiasm get the better of me I could end up with a 440cui boat anchor.
MAny thanks, it will be a few weeks away before I am in the position to fit the cam shaft. Will be in touch nearer the time.
