1968 Charger bumpers

Post by Anonymous »

Any one help. Got a 1968 Charger thats filling a very large garage. The chrome is as flat as a bag on the bumpers, no rust and their in good nick. I would like to re chrome them, went to a place the other day, wanted £300 per end. Smiled nicely and walked out. New are $229, but they will probably be tinplate. Looked on the net for re chromers, not many about. Anybody got any ideas, I'm in Cheshire. Would like to see that spring sunshine gleaming on my new bumpers.

£300 per bumper isn't bad IF the job is good, price is usually high because of all the damn hoops the rechromers have to jump through

they used to be £450 from me, done in the states but don't do them now

the $229 ones are repros

One chromer I can recommend for old stuff is Marque Restore (marquerestore.co.uk). They really specialise in old stuff and and will straighten dents etc. They're doing my 64 Impala bumpers as we speak. Not the cheapest but the results are awesome and will last years.

Chroming is not cheap in the UK but you really get what you pay for (a bit like body and paint).

Just had a front bumper chromed by Marque Restore. Not the easiest people to deal with, they don't reply to emails and they very rarely answer the phone. Looks a good job though, it had better be for the money I parted with.

You aren't wrong - they spend longer by the chroming tanks than by the phone but the results are good. It does take ages to get through to them as well!
