There had been plans to make a 1971 T/A model.
It would have been the same as the 1970 version except for a 4bbl carb instead of the six pack induction.

These plans were dropped before any cars were made when Dodge got out of T/A racing.

Some people insist that at least one 1971 T/A was built because of an advertisement that seems to show one.

However if you look at the adverts below you can see it is the same car photographed on the same wet day on the same road. Even the tyre valves are in the same place.
It is amazing what these graphics artists could do with an airbrush in the days before Photoshop! ;)

Could make them functional heat relief passages :thumbright:

Sorry to go off topic here but I have a question about the Challenger T/A's. The T/A is a 340 cu in engine yet I believe the Trans Am series race cars where ristricted to 300 cu in. So this would mean that the race built T/A's had that ristriction, and only the product T/A's had 340 block. Is that right ??

Not quite,
SCCA rules required Dodge to sell production editions of the track car, and Dodge responded with the Challenger T/A.

The race cars had a destroked 305-cid version of Mopar's 340-cid V-8. With a four-barrel carb and some 440 bhp.

Production T/As stayed 340, but upped the score with a set of 3 two-barrel Holleys on a Edelbrock manifold, at about 295 HP

Back to 70 Daytonas....

Then of course there is this car that upset quite a few people (including me) because the person concerned was considered a trusted friend. This car more than anything throws doubt about any of the 70 Daytonas actually being real.

Also worth mentioning that the race and street T/A 340 were not the same castings as the normal 340. This was so that 4-bolt mains could be fitted to the race engine and the intake ports enlarged.

Good stuff from Dave regarding the T/A Challengers. I heard a very firm rumour that a pilot 71 Challenger, destined to be a T/A became the mule car for the Petty kit car 72 Challengers. This was due to the handling capabilities of the car. Love the front end treatment to the proposed 71 T/A by the way.
I still believe in the two 70 Daytona deal, ie the brown and green one.
Good thread.

I actually hope that it is true. But there will always be that doubt. Which spoils it a little. :(
