Toolbox

I am thinking of buying a toolbox/cabinet ect for my son as he is doing a machanic course, looking at teng toolbox's, any one got one and if so any thought's . cheer's MITCH

umm there abit flimsy.
i use cromwell tools (check spelling as probably wrong)
have stores all over and internet order and delivery, i got a lower roller cab and top box and both are very sturdy well made and had draw mates.
cant remeber the make of mine but think there were some japanese make.
but they have many makes to suite all price ranges,

that's true Teng are too flimsy & so are the Sealey ones , but you can end up paying a lot of dosh just to put some tools in , when i just started my apprenticeship as a mechanic , i spent the dosh on the tools instead , taskmaster range are pretty strong , still got one of their cabinet/cheat thingys ,plus you can add on parts . also have one of them big Clarke hd roller draw tool chests now also, just as good really as snap on i think for the price , its about 1 1/2 meters tall .

I got a 3 box, multi drawer and a cupboard, set up from Halfords for £99!! It's blue and whilst not a Snap on, does what I need and has stood up to a bit of moving around. They sometimes have a deal on in-store too.

Try your local snap-on dealer for a second hand box. Even second hand it'll out last the others

Theres plenty for sale on ebay , but be prepared to pick it up , as long isnt too far away to make it cost effective

Steveo is right , go to your local Machine Mart shop, theyve a full range and combinations , the HD series are good , ball bearing sliders , swish opening.

Wifes buying me the Black Box they do fer mi birthday

I agree! I've had a couple of second hand Snap-on boxes and they lasted years! Very heavy with exelent build quality. If I was gonna spend £150 on one I would not waste my time with a new inferiour brand!

Snap On is VERY overpriced - I have two freinds, one who is a Franchisee, and the other who is a rep for Snap On diagnostics (neither of which still work for them).

The BIGGEST appeal about them is that the dealer will drive to your garage to bring you the tools, and let you have them on easy terms, (or if you are a bit gullible, Extended Credit at 29%). If the convenience doesnt mean anything to you, look at other brands. Beta for one, and Facom Professional range is another.

Dont be a designer label tart if you dont have to be, its an expensive pursuit.

Having spent £K's in the past for tool's in the past for both my hobby and previous profession, I now resist any temptation to spend more than needed

IMO if you are using stuff everyday, buy the best. If its occasional use, then buy something less expensive. I'm still using some cheap spanners that I had when I was 15

I have a 'Reasonably Priced' Machine Mart type Chest & Roller Cab that I have been using for 10 years. It's still OK, but I might not open any of the drawers for a Month

Nothing about being a tart mate, I bought my snap-on top box from my local snap-on van man for £125. O.k it was 10 years ago, but at the time it was cheaper than anything machine fart was selling. Its also been upside down in the back of my van, on my bench at work, outside in the rain etc Quality counts if you use it all the time. P.S I'm not on commision

machine mart

big one on wheels with alittle one on top

it won't last forever but it works and nothing has fallen off in 3 years of carting it out the garage up the drive and back

you can also slag halfords off till the cows come home but i have to admit the 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch ratchets i have from them have lasted years have a small distance between clicks easy to reverse not too heavy and have taken a bashing no probs
their torque wrenches leave a bit to be desired took one to the top of the scale and the square drive twisted

most of the cheaper stuff comes out of the same factory

the compressors the blue machine mart is made in the same factory as wolf
the air tools
the tool boxes

same stuff across sealy machine mart halfords and screwfix same tool different paint, different stick on badge (especially the air impact drives nibblers air chisels etc)

Costco get some good stuff in but its never there when i have the cash once they is gone they is gone.

Go for a second hand Snap On. There gear in my mind is overpriced but there boxes are second to none.
