Rubber pushrod retainer

Post by J Clark »

Doing my brakes at the moment and read the following from Mopar Action:

Quote:
"Any master cylinder used with manual brakes must have a machined recess in the back of the piston to accept the rubber pushrod retainer"

<img SRC="http://www.vaxso.plus.com/rubber pushrod retainer.jpg">

I have manual brakes and I have the recess in the back of the master cylinder piston, but I do not have the rubber pushrod retainer.

Now I imagine that this retainer is to help make sure that the brake pushrod does not pop out of the recess.

The prospect of the pushrod coming out and therefore not having any brakes is a rather unsettling one.

So what do you guys have to say about this and where do I buy one of these anyway!!!

Thanks

JC

Ok, one place that sells these is here:

http://www.magnumhp.com/catalog/product ... 749e1f2a65

For what they cost and the potential hazard of not having one, I think I'll have to get one.

I wonder how many cars on here are running without this part? :-k

Yes, that's exactly what it's for, without it, the brake light switch is the only thing stopping the rod from falling out if you were to lift the brake pedal. Not good.
