Don't suppose it matters much but why would you want to generate lift at the back?

I think because the leading edge is higher than the trailing edge. Should be the other way round to create down force.

Yep! Didn't Pontiac use a spoiler a bit like that on the GTO? It sorta looks familiar. Can't see it's factory, it's something someone has made, nice job really, even though the angle is totally wrong. I would think it was done like that to match the angle of the bootlid, more than anything else.
