There seems to be confusion in this thread between MP "crate" engines and other company "crate" engines. MP have very little quality control and the parts are just bolted together and shipped.

Most crate engine builders however check every step of the build and many will even dyno the engine for you as part of the price.

Now back to MP.
You see the step on the deck of this brand new Hemi block?

This is what MP sell as a finished and inspected block. My mate had to have it decked to get rid of the step as it runs right through the water passage. If these things are quality inspected the guy doing it has a guide dog.

Sounds like you're getting something better than that Paul?
I don't know if they are better, they don't seem any more expensive, cheaper if anything. They are the only non-MP option from Summit, and I'm hoping that if they were cowboys then Summit wouldn't want the grief of being a dealer for them, but I guess I'll know when it gets here.

It's not definite yet, depends on how I get on on saturday

If the price is cheap, its usually cos the parts inside are cheap and it doesnt cost 3 or 4 times to build here, overwise it would cost 20k to build a 440

Well, if people are saying it costs £3k to get a short block built here and a complete crate short block is $1200 then that is three or four times isn't it? Unless I'm missing something?

I'm just looking for some advice so I can get my engine built, and the only person who hasn't said it'll be near enough £3k is Baccaruda and he's just gone to the States.

And while the parts used in a crate motor might be cheap, labour costs are likely to be a lot less in the States, particularly the way the exchange rate is at the moment.

But if anyone's got any experience of a Blueprint crate motor being no good then obviously I'd like to hear it before I spend the money. And if the consensus is that no crates are worth having then there'll be another A-body for sale :(

Most of the crate engines are well worth having. Check out Muscle Motors or Hughes Engines for example. They both do quality work for a good price.

Would want @ least 550 HP on a 500 inch.

Why not buy my 440 stocker , built in England. :D
