hopefully when you check them again in 6 months time the bin men have`nt had them away
mind you if they are like ours you`d have to put them in the correct bin & make sure it was moved the 2 feet to the side of the road or they would`nt move `em low paid you see ,only about 18 quid an hour
anyway good idea

13 months update. left to right
hammerite smooth . white. holding up quite well
Jenoseel. only a tiny hint of rust at the extreme edges, no bubbling
Rust bullet silver. some bubbling under the paint at the edges
Rust bullet blackshell , whole corner has come loose from metal, and metal is rusting badly under there, paint can be peeled off like a sticker! No rust where it was still stuck down.
zinc primer. moisture seems to have got through this and is rusting everywhere but it is a lot better than it would be with nothing on
etch primer pretty rusty
etch primer with yellow 2k topcoat. good apart from edges.
It seems the rust bullet blackshell has a major adhesion problem on clean steel. Maybe it is better on rusty steel.
So at the moment the Jenoseel is in the lead.
If I had unlimited time and resources I would have done a control (bare) panel, and also done topcoats over the jenoseel etc since they are able to be topcoated.

I've read up on zinc primer and it works as a 'sacrificial anode'.
I.E. the zinc corrodes instead of the steel under it.
Speedboat engines use the same principal- they have a chunk of ally bolted to the bottom which needs replacing occasionally as it gets eaten away by the salt.
For zinc primer to work you need:
Electrical contact with the steel (no primer under it)
Zinc-RICH primer (the price is a good guide here
)
To re-coat it when it starts to fail
Great test Dave
