are the brakes on the back of a US mopar
Girlock brakes?
i believe Girlock stands for Girling and Lockheed
now is this a classic case of appropration of a name to cover all types of drum brake
like Hoover is used for any kind of vaccum cleaner
or Hotchkiss live rear axle relates to diff n cart springs
the reason i asked is because
my little diff in the back of my aussie valiant uses what the aussies say are Girlock brakes.
the diff is not US sourced and is australia-centric in everything
they look like a clone of the US sourced brakes on the 7 and a bit inch diff used in slant 6 and small v8 US cars. Thats based on fuzzy internet pictures and what i can work out from my aussie manuals
i.e if i wanted to get some new rear brakes onto a diff i have i could scrounge round getting second hand parts in Oz new cylinders and shoes and pay approx the same as buying a kit from the US or a US importer with the whole shooting match new.
I have no access to both type to cross reference
Anyone out there owned an aussie car with a Borgwarner diff and fitted small US brakes in place of the standard aussie ones. i don't belive aussie cars used the same size of drums as B and C bodies but could well have had the same as some A bodies due to the A body heritage.

Girlock brakes??
The Greater Knapweed near the Mugwort by the Buckthorn tree is dying
Late to this, Dave, as I have given up on this forum, but, as Matt pointed out, and our emails back and forth about the guy with the XA and the busted axle, any early Falcon that wasn't 351 powered used the BW axle, and I suspect, but my manuals don't explicityly say it, that they used Girlock drums as well.
I know XA and XB's used a combination of either Girlock or PBR front disk calipers, and PBR rear calipers if they had disks out back.

many thanks
looks to be exactly the same
even down to the choice of 2 spider or 4 spider gear LSD centres
those brakes look very familiar as well
MMmmm
i'm guessing the only real difference will be the backplate 4 bolt spacing
as this changed on the valiant and was again different for disk which Vals never had.
easy overcome
wonder if i should fit disks
