From what i recall the film company wanted three 55 Chevys building for Graffitti, dressed up stockers for filming only. The man building them was a well known race car builder and somehow misunderstood and supplied full on race ready cars. One of these was used in Two Lane Blacktop. Am i right or did i dream it.

It was the other way round. Richard Ruth built 2 cars for Two Lane Blacktop, both reputedly capable of running 10 second quarters. The one used for most of the exterior shots was reused two years later as Bob Falfa's car in American Graffiti and is now in the hands of a private collector. The 2nd car was outfitted with camera platforms for filming the scenes of the car's interior for Two-Lane Blacktop and is now in private hands (pic below). A 3rd car that appeared briefly in some exterior shots in Two-Lane Blacktop, was rolled over in American Graffiti, afterwards sold for salvage, and later crushed.Chip wrote:From what i recall the film company wanted three 55 Chevys building for Graffitti, dressed up stockers for filming only. ticking away the moments that make up a dull day, you fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.

Martin Sheen's car was a 34 Ford coupe, built by Pete Chapouris (sp?) of "Pete and Jake", famed Hot Rod builders. An iconic car, and the inspiration for many flamed 34 coupes in the 80's, as was the similar ZZ Top car (actually a 33 I think). A 33/34 coupe would be on my shortlist too.
Taling of the California kid, what did the bad guy Sherrif drive? Some kind of Dodge IIRC. 59 Coronet maybe?
