Post by DaveB »

I have a 69 273 to paint, could do with a RAL#to mix the paint,as far as Im aware its red, although on the sump and heads it looks slightly orangey, like poppy red.

Slight problem ther Jeff, someone had painted this engine with a brush, over the oil, rust etc,so I sent them off for for chemical stripping with a few other parts, the only clue I have is on the heads, which ar 40 years old and no good for a sample.

Got block back from machine shop, now its clean and the loose red paints fallen off, this engine was definatley orange, the heads, sump etc are orange, despite what Ive read regarding 69 273 being red, going to paint it orange, any ideas why this engine wasnt painted the correct red originally. :?

On that site I posted, the only S/B in '69 that was orange was police spec 318.
I've got an Aussie 318 '73 block,that is sort of poppy red/orange.
