I have been known for my "Victorian Polishing" in the past........ But my Bird had a 2.76 to 1 rear end with 15" wheels and the fastest I had it (clock reading only) was 150 mph +, and it was still pulling... :P

I do hope that was on a private road or track?

Nice Bird you are lucky to have owned one, looked like the good old days

superbird

I owned my Superbird for 9 years, a matching numbers 440+6 V code, auto, FY1 Lemon Twist car . John painted it, great job! Took it to a Garys Picnick at the Pod once and raced it. The car ran 13.00 dead in drive as I never had a tach and shifting manually with a colum was not ideal. The car had a 3.55.1 rear sure grip, the engine had a Purple Cam, Heavy Duty springs and Rhoads lifters, on a standard bore, BM trans kit, deep sump, took off air filter and played with the timing, let some air out of the rear tyres, Hooker headers through Cherry Bombs were the only deviations. I remember racing Tony Grandsons blue twin turbo Camaro, he ran consistant 10.7 secs all day long, it felt like an age getting to the end of the track. Yet 13 sec quarters were very respetable.
I guess the qiickest Birds are the two factory cheater cars, the Sox and Martin and the 5 and 50 car. The fastest has to be Vern Judy's salt flats car at over 250 mph. remember the Birds and Tonas were built for the ovals and quick dirt tracks. After 1970 they dominated ARCA racing for years. In the famous wind tunnel tests the cars were put through a 201 mph scenario, and oh yes the first Bird was infact a 69 Road Runner.
