Better cut those nails Pete , the plate was labelled incorrectly (no excuse though :roll: ), must of cost me £300 of wasted gas , least i can look back & say i've experienced the gas flowing both ways , even cooled the fuel before it hit the plate. :shock:

I cant really give my car any real stick on the street because of its very high compression ratio, its a real pain...

...as no fuel that i have tried will stop it pinking, except racing fuel C12 or C16 etc.
If the timing is knocked back, that helps a lot, But you really notice the difference in performance. its a trade off, but it works, as i cant stick C12 in it for street duty use at 5-6 MPG
Not a problem really, but i would not rate any of the octane boosters or 102 octane BP fuel.....save your money to buy race fuel for the track
and enjoy
and run a second fuel cell with C12+ for NOS on the street

Steve , if it were me & using it on the street , i would lower the comp ratio.

Have you tried using a colder plug , say NGK 8s? , or maybe retard cam timing , maybe change the cam , hanging the IV open longer.

Just a thought. :drwho:

Or stick a Demon on it flooding it with fuel , that'll cool it down. :D

Kev , had the Nitrous not run out , maybe the rings would of held out , maybe , just maybe , the cylinders were filling with too much fuel , lighting it off behind the rings. ;)

This is what happens with low bottle pressures too. :roll:

Possible, but after having the empty bottle phenomenon happen a few times before, I recognised the symptoms and was in Abort mode, with drugs switched straight off and cruise the 1/4.

By the time you noticed the bottle empty (pressure loss) , reached down & shut the nitrous off , BOOM , damage done , just my opinion Kev , not saying your wrong. ;)

Sorry Adam, cross wires! I think it was a loss of pressure caused by a lack of NOS in the bottle. When I weighed it after the run the bottle still registered as 2lb full. That's how all my bottles went.....The power drop off is gradual and noticing this effect, the drugs were off. I agree that in nitrous failures it is split second stuff, especially on the fuel side of things)but your set up and my set up are apples and potatoes! I had a low comp engine running only 150hp with C16, watered down with Optimax. Your set up is optimised and very hi tech compared with my humble set up. You are at far more risk from grenading your motor than I ever was. Interesting comments, Fella! :thumbright:

When you were running the high octane as usual & you suffered with a fuel rich condition , maybe with the higher octane it did'nt light off behind the rings/lands, when as you say you used the low octane, this was when the rings broke. :-k

Adam this motor was built 8 years ago and i have tried many cams.....
and the old trw forged 12.5 help make power in the little revvy 383 on the good stuff
... not bother about caning it on the street, it daws enough attention anyway

I with Kevs keep th NOS side simple and lo tech and as a little booster not going electronic heaven with it

She fine til the 505 is done....got o stop changing parts and build it :lol:

Steve , a cam change with longer duration would lower the DC , hence eliminate detonation , as long as you have around 40 thou quench , if your not running ideal quench then a cam change would not help.

Kev has had great results using nitrous , hell of a quick SB :shock:

As far as i can see the only tuning variable when running nitrous off a throttle switch is how you purge (softer hit) & length of fuel/nitrous lines.
A controller all day long for me , especially on a street/strip motor , having to change timing everytime you make a pass would be a pain , not to mention the retard on launch , unless your staging @ 3000 rpm , then there's the faffing around when you wanna drive home. (recurve dizzy)

A lot more tuning variables with a controller , which have been posted on other threads.
